Heal the Trauma
Therapy for women to heal from birth trauma, childhood trauma, and anything uncomfortable
Motherhood & birth trauma change you
You can shed the trauma. You can parent better than you were parented. Your traumatic birth doesn’t have to flood your brain every time you look at your sweet baby.
Motherhood & birth trauma change you. It changes your brain. Your priorities. It rewires your life. It feels like you’re not you anymore. It’s this weird out-of-body experience.
You feel the need to get back to who you were before. That pre-birth you. The one who had things put together & could control the outcomes. There’s grief in the duality of finally being a mom and trying to get back on your feet after the most traumatic day of your life that also has a small glimmer of joy.
You can release the feelings of trauma from your body so you can enjoy your postpartum & parent from a place of healing.
Being a mom may be something you’ve dreamed about for so long. You got to a point in your life where this chapter felt like the right next step. You prepared for pregnancy and birth. You prepared the nursery and everything for baby in postpartum. You may or may not have prepared for postpartum. (Most of us don’t, unfortunately.)
When perinatal trauma happens through:
Pregnancy complications
Birth complications
Postpartum complications for you or your new baby that you so desperately want to cuddle is in the NICU…
It doesn’t start your motherhood story on the page you daydreamed. Where things turn out beautifully & you get the overwhelming rush of oxytocin & tears from meeting your baby earth side for the first time. Instead, you were likely met with more people in the room, the beeps & alarms, procedures being done in a flash, and you not feeling connected to your baby. It’s this foreign feeling of knowing you should love this child, knowing you do love this child, but not feeling emotionally attached. This baby feels like a stranger, and that tears you up inside.
It’s not that you were ignorant to the possibility of complications, but you thought…it just wouldn’t happen like this. That’s the crappy piece about trauma. We don’t want it to happen to us. We may even try to prevent it from happening to us. But we’re not given a perfect life. And uncomfortable things do happen.
If this feels like you, I want you to know I’ve been in your shoes. I know what it can feel like. And I know what we can do to help you start a new, healed chapter of the motherhood book you’re writing.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) allows you to re-write your birth or any traumatic experience within your nervous system. What does that look like for you?
Here’s how Accelerated Resolution Therapy for birth trauma works:
Through eye movements, we activate your sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) by remembering your experience, then activate your parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) to help calm the emotions you feel after you remember.
Then we get to re-write your story. You will always remember the facts, but you won’t feel the same pain when you remember the facts.
This all happens in as little as one session!
I know. It sounds too good to be true. The founder, Lainey quite literally titled her book about ART “Too Good to be True?”
Some ways I describe Accelerated Resolution Therapy are:
Magic fairy pixie dust
Scientific & research-driven voo-doo
The therapy that if more people knew about it, the mental health industry might collapse because people actually get better quickly
You may be experiencing:
You remember the bright lights. The panic in people’s voices, eyes, and steps.
You remember the gut-wrenching pain of your birth not going how you dreamed. You remember the sounds, smells, and everything in between.
You already feel like a failure of a mom because birth or postpartum didn’t happen the way you intended.
You think back to your birth with sadness, frustration, and a deep sense of loneliness because it feels like you can’t share this with anyone.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy for trauma can help you:
Remove the feelings of trauma in your body
Process trauma from birth or childhood to parent with a clean slate
Enjoy the postpartum & motherhood experience ahead of you instead of being chained to the experiences of the past
Here’s what to expect:
I’ve noticed that despite not having to tell me a single thing of what you want to process in an ART session, many want to establish a relationship with me before diving into the healing of those unprocessed memories they’ve been trying to avoid. And honestly, I don’t blame you. Because of that, I’ve created an ART Intensive package for clients who are not wanting talk therapy for anxiety or OCD.
What’s included in an ART Intensive:
-
We get to know each other through a formal intake process just like every other client. This is a 90-minute session, rather than the typical 50-minute intake for talk therapy. During this session, we do what I like to call a taste test of ART. This helps calm the nerves you may have about what Accelerated Resolution Therapy is like and can help you gain confidence that you can actually do this. Trust me, I’ve seen it work with even with the most skeptical clients.
-
It’s time for your first 2-hour ART session! Yay!! We will discuss what’s best in the intake session, but we have a fun saying of what to target in the first session: the first cruddy memory, worst cruddy memory, or the one that comes up the most often.
-
Your second ART session will be about a week after the first. We’ll debrief how the first session settled in and what you’ve noticed since then. Then, we get right into the second session. Again, we want to think about the first, worst, or the memory that comes up the most often. If you want to work on an ongoing concern, we can work on that too! It doesn’t have to only be past memories.
-
We either continue working through past memories and situations, or we get to be creative in this session. Some examples of what we could work on are confidence in self and your relationships, feelings surrounding money and financial discussions, motivation. The options are endless. This is your last ART session in the package though, so let’s focus on what will provide you continued relief.
-
This 45-minute talk session allows you to debrief your ART experience, discuss ways to live a more values-aligned life, and hopefully learn an intervention or coping skill to take with your into your parenting journey. The time is yours to use as you’d like!
-
I created this intensive model based off what I’ve observed people wanting that are coming to me for only ART sessions. The financial breakdown of an ART Intensive is:
90 minute intake ($300)
2 hour ART session ($400)
2 hour ART session ($400)
2 hour ART session ($400)
45 minute talk therapy ($200)
$1700
50% ($850) is due at booking and the second 50% is due before your second ART session.
All intensive sessions must be used by 8 weeks after the intake session. If all sessions are not held by 8 weeks, you forfeit the remaining sessions you did not schedule and have.
You’re ready to not let your childhood or past experiences impact your kids.
You’re wanting to break cycles in your parenting.
You had a traumatic reproductive history.
There’s an experience (doesn’t have to be big T trauma) that has always made you a little more nervous than you’d like.
You’re ready to experience postpartum and motherhood without the birth trauma haunting you.
This is for you if:
-
Yes and no. Yes, Accelerated Resolution Therapy uses eye movements and has a similar general process as EMDR. They both are based off the same research. No, the steps are different and ART moves you through a trauma in 1 session, whereas EMDR has 8+ steps that typically require 6-12 sessions to move you through the same trauma. ART is more directive than EMDR. I tell you exactly what we’re focusing on.
-
Sure! If you want to schedule an ART session and are not a current client, it is $450 for a 2-hour ART session. Please schedule the free 20min intro call so we can ensure you’re ready for an ART session.
-
ART’s protocol is very directive and intentional. We move quite quickly. And actually, the less talking we do, the faster and easier your brain makes the changes it needs to.
-
After your ART session, I’ll tell you to take it easy for the rest of your day. You can go back to work and go about your scheduled plans. I really want you to focus on hydrating and going to bed when you’re tired. For the 3 days immediately after, you might feel like you’re still on Cloud 9 or in a “lucid dream” as we describe it.
FAQS
-
Not one bit. You don’t have to tell me anything you do during the entire process. And I will actually ask you to not share any details during the ART process until your brain starts making the changes it needs.
As your brain makes the changes, some people can’t help but share because they’re amazed that ART actually works.
-
That’s an “it depends” answer. If you have a medical condition such as epileptic seizures, we can definitely discuss this further and consult with your specialized doctor to get clearance before an ART session. If you are expecting to testify in court due to a trauma that you experienced or witnessed, we would need to discuss further and consult with your legal counsel to determine next steps because there can be options.
-
ART sessions have a 48 hour cancellation policy due to the amount of time they are scheduled for (2 hours). I ask that you honestly communicate what’s going on.
